Remembering Julia Campbell...

It's been exactly a year now and a day when her body was found in a shallow grave near the village of Batad in Ifugao Province. A search party of Philippine army soldiers noticed her feet sticking out of a mound of fresh earth in a creek near the remote village. The case hearing is still on going and yesterday some friends of JC flew in with her mother to attend the hearing yesterday. Some people saw the mother of JC and the wife of the self-confessed killer in a teary hush hush talk but wouldn't want to reveal whatever transpired to their heart to heart encounter. Duntugan was then brought back to Ifugao jail after the court case hearing yesterday.

Julia had left vignettes of her life here in the Philippines via her blog, the country she had learned to love but the irony was, she was killed here, where she chose to stay and be of help of whatever she could extend to our fellow Pinoy.

"I began to wonder why we live in a world where so many people are exposed to such unpleasantries. Yes, there are parasites worse than roundworms. And if you're hearty enough, the worms won't kill you."

She was able to survived all unpleasantries here, the worms, Reming and so on but not the cruel hands of her killer. From the start he was asking for forgiveness to what he've done, or maybe a commutation of murder case down to homicide. I think it is not fair...although vengeance is not ours. Let him pay for whatever pain he had caused to Julia and her family as well.

May her good soul rest in peace...
